Poor
Richard's Winery
220 Ridge Road
Frenchtown
908-996-6480
Poor Richards Winery has 15 acres of French Hybrid Grapes on mountainside
shale with southern sun exposure. The facility was built into the
mountainside and provides them with the natural temperature regulation
that an underground building is designed to offer. The grapes that
they grow are winter hearty French Hybrids which were hybridized
in France between vinifera and native varieties many decades ago.
Their method of winemaking is virtually by hand, case by case. All
grapes are hand selected by cluster, de-stemmed, pressed and fermented,
bottled and labeled by a select few under the supervision of the
winemaker. The expanding winery now includes a party deck overlooking
the vineyard. The frequent small plane traffic belching skydivers
and parachutists add to the attraction of a relaxing afternoon sipping
wine. White Wines: Seyval Blanc, Vidal Blanc, Barrel Seyval, Kingwood
and Frenchtown White. Red Wines: Frenchtown Red, New Vintage Red,
Chancellor, Chambourcin and Vineyard Red Reserve. Other Wines: Copper
Penney, Sunglo, Judith, Pink Sparkling and Demi Doux.
