The Delaware Bay Schooner Project offers cruises aboard the 115
foot, 45 person capacity A.J. Meerwald. Learn about the natural,
historic and cultural resources of the Delaware Estuary, and the
need to conserve these resources for the future. Passengers can
help raise & furl the sails, handle & coil the lines and
assist the crew as they trawl for fish, dredge for oysters, sample
plankton and perform water quality tests. Daily sails leave from
their home port of Bivalve (where the Maurice River meets the Delaware
Bay), Philadelphia, Lewes, Cape May, Wilmington, Camden, or other
ports in the region. The schooner is owned and operated by the Delaware
Bay Schooner Project, a not-for-profit educational organization
with the mission of providing education and building stewardship
to conserve and enrich the culture, history and natural resources
of the Delaware Estuary. The US Coast Guard has worked closely with
the Schooner Project to ensure that the vessel and crew meet strict
safety standards for carrying students and adults and the program
